The Winters have graciously volunteered to host the 2010 MGGA Annual picnic which is sure to be another “don’t miss” event. Located in Southeastern Minnesota, Indian Island Winery is one of Minnesota’s newest wineries formed in the midst of a well-established vineyard (12+ acres; 7,000+ vines) and with the expertise of one of MGGA’s very experienced members, Ray Winter of Winterhaven Vineyard & Nursery.
Our program this year features Ray’s grape harvester, as well as other equipment (fertilizer bander, air blast sprayer, etc.) and will include a tour of the winery operations by Angie, and the vineyard and nursery by Ray. Discussion topics will also include winter damage and spraying programs.
The tentative agenda is as follows:
11:00 a.m. — Set-up and registration; we will be at the winery – look for the MGGA entry to the south of the building.
Please follow the signs for parking on the grassy area.
11:30 a.m. — First tour of vineyard (Ray) or winery (Angie)
12:30 p.m. — Potluck lunch
1:30 p.m.—Second tour of vineyard or winery (same as above)
Everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass and is encouraged to bring something to grill. There is plenty of seating, inside and out, with refrigeration, electricity for crock pots, and running water available. There will even be two trams to transport members between the winery and the vineyard. First class!
RSVPs are preferred by July 17, to Dave & Mary at DMohn4@msn.com or call 1-651-735-8722.
We are looking for general help with parking, set-up and take down. If interested, please contact Dave Mohn.
